Adverbs

Adverbs are words that usually modify, limit or restrict the meaning of verbs, adjective, or other adverb. Adverbs often describe how, when, where, or to what extent something is done.

In English, adverbs are often formed by adding -ly to an adjective. For example, the adjective “quick” becomes the adverb “quickly,” and the adjective “loud” becomes the adverb “loudly.” However, not all adverbs follow this pattern, and there are many adverbs in English that do not end in -ly.

Adverbs can be used to provide more information about the verb in a sentence. For example: “She sings beautifully,” “He speaks loudly,” “The cat runs quickly.” In these sentences, the adverbs “beautifully,” “loudly,” and “quickly” provide more information about how the actions described by the verbs “sings,” “speaks,” and “runs” are performed.

Adverbs can also be used to modify adjectives and other adverbs. For example: “She is extremely talented,” “The car is extremely fast,” “He is extremely intelligent.” In these sentences, the adverbs “extremely” modify the adjectives “talented,” “fast,” and “intelligent,” providing more information about the degree to which these qualities are present.
